Every day I notice the endless numbers of blogs talking about the stress women are putting on their minds and bodies around their self-image. I think it’s important to be supportive to women in all areas that affect their daily living in a negative way. This topic in particular is very close to my heart as it can have very detrimental effects on one’s level of success in life. In this day and age women can’t help but feel the pressure to look and act a certain way. We are constantly reminded by our society of the way we should look in order to be accepted. Although this is obviously not the right thing to do to anyone, it’s something we have come to accept as normal.
Women have adapted to these everyday reminders and taken them in as a part of their daily lives. From the moment we wake up to start our day we question what we should put not only in our bodies but what we should also put our bodies through in order achieve what society desires from us. Do we eat the bacon egg and cheese that we really want or do we have fruit salad because that’s what’s expected of us. Do we wake up at 5am in order to burn an excessive amount of calories before work or do we focus on doing what we know is appropriate for our varying body types? It’s very hard to be an individual when the pressure from the crowd is all around us.
Endless studies have shown that our society is not as accepting of women who don’t meet the standards that have been set for them. The idea that thin is more attractive and accepted has become ingrained in many of the young women in the world today. What impact can we have on young girls today if the adult women around them have fallen victim to this same pressure?
Strengthening your mind to identify and accept who you are as a person is no easy task. Get to know who you are, who you want to be, and work towards your own expectations for yourself. There is nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself, but always remind yourself that this is for you and no on one else. Be proud of small successes. Eating healthy is a way of life, it takes time and lots of practice. Results will never come over night, but when you start to see them you will feel amazing. Training yourself to know that with effort comes desired results may be easier said then done, but it’s not unthinkable. We all have it in us to do what we set our minds to do. Think positively, think realistically, know your strengths, your weaknesses, and above all know your limits. The pressure to look a certain way may not be coming from the best of places, but you can alter those ideas to meet your own expectations for yourself.
It’s completely normal for someone to desire to look like or be like the models and actresses we see all the time, but if we continue to beat ourselves up over the fact that our bodies and minds are just not cooperating with our desire to be like them, we are going to miss out on our own potential for success.
Having a healthy mindset plus an overall healthy lifestyle will lead you too much success in life. Its something we just have to work at. With support from the positive people you can training your mind and body to reach the goals you long to achieve.
