Dream. Believe. Unlock

Last week I was inspired by a post entitled Are you setting goals for 2014? Conceptualize instead written by my friend Miisa Mink from Driven Woman. In this post Miisa shared with her readers the idea of trading in New Year’s resolutions for three concepts that will push people towards action. Miisa expressed that rather than creating a list of goals this year, why not identify three words that describe what you want to achieve or how you want to feel during the year. In her post she gives the example of a person wanting to lose weight for the New Year. Instead of listing a new year’s resolution such as “I will to lose weight”, why not use a word that will motivate you to take action. In Miisa’s post she used the word “green” to represent what this person would need to eat if they really wanted to achieve their desired weight loss goal. In reading this post I was inspired to share the three words that have been motivating me to take action for the past 2 years. If you’ve got three words of your own please visit Miisa’s post and share your feedback.

If you are a frequent visitor of Ambition in the City you have probably seen me include the words dream, believe and unlock on several of my blog posts. Over the past 2 years these words have slowly evolved into what is now my coaching motto. I started to recognize how often I would use these words in my coaching and writing when I wanted to inspire clients and readers towards action. What I have discovered over time is that these words have aided me to not only make significant changes in my own life, but they have helped several of my clients and readers to reconnect with their courageconfidence and choice.  As we get this new year off and running I hope that you can find inspiration in these three little words and start thinking about words that could possibly start motivating you towards positive change.

Dream

What would life be like if there were no dreamers in the world?  In order to impact change in your life you must be willing to dream. As a life coach, cultivating my client’s curiosity and creativity is always one of my main objectives. It is only when we can tap into that part of ourselves that houses our childish enthusiasm and hunger for exploration that we can truly step into our power. When we are open to dreaming we give ourselves an opportunity to be curious and play. We allow for our thoughts to stretch past the farthest reaches of our imagination and we are given a chance to dive head first into the unknown.

What makes dreamers so unique? Dreamers have the courage to question and explore. They don’t disregard their thoughts, ideas or ambitions, they give these things the space they need to grow and flourish. Dreamers allow their ideas to sprout and take form. When you can approach your dreams with curiosity rather than fear or doubt you muster the courage necessary to believe that whatever you can create in your mind can in fact be made a reality.

“A dreamer will not stop having that dream until it has been fulfilled” -J. Wilson

Believe

What dreamers have that others often lack is the confidence and faith that their dreams have value in this world. When we can attach value to our goals we strengthen their power. We give them significance and purpose in our life and in turn empower ourselves to identify creative and unique methods that will propel us towards action. Dreamers believe in their capacity to create change in their own lives because they recognize the choice that exists for them. It is the choice to see past all limiting beliefs in an effort to embrace possibility.  The dreamer that connects to their courage and confidence see’s no obstacle they can’t overcome. They step confidently into the unknown with an open heart and an open mind because they believe in their mission and purpose in life.

“Humanity does not suffer from the disease of wrong beliefs but humanity suffers from the contagious nature of the lack of belief. If you have no magic with you it is not because magic does not exist but it is because you do not believe in it. Even if the sun shines brightly upon your skin every day, if you do not believe in the sunlight, the sunlight for you does not exist.” – C. JoyBell C.

Unlock

When you acknowledge your dreams and hidden aspirations as significant and worth exploring, you will start to notice the possibilities that begin to emerge all around you. As the doors to a better, happier and more fulfilling life begin to unlock you will come to realize all the possibilities that have existed for you all along. Dreamers succeed because they see past the “what ifs” and the “but only’s” that succeed in keeping so many of us small. They cultivate their beautiful ideas by nurturing them with love and attention, sharing them with others, and by ultimately giving them the room to grow into something beautiful.

This year promise yourself that you are going to dream, that you are going to  believe and that you are going to unlock the life you know you deserve.

  1. As I age I cling tighter and tighter to my dreams. They have developed a clear focus and they are the food that nourishes my goals and objective. My action plans spring forth from my dreams.

Coach Bob Valvano said it best a few weeks before he died “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.”

    As usual, great blog
