Unlocking Your Right Brain Power

253299_3792436643659_75075728_n

Unlocking your right brain involves tapping into that part of yourself that houses your true authenticity and aliveness. When we function solely with our left brain we silence all that is unique and beautiful about ourselves.  Stop basing all of your decisions and actions on what’s logical, practical, and strategic, and start living from your intuition, inner yearning, and creativity. By stifling those aspects of ourselves that make us distinct we deny the world from experiencing all that we have to contribute. There is no amount of books or education that can replace what is inherently unique and wonderful about you. Share those thoughts, ideas, gifts, and talents with the world as they emerge. Your purpose in this world should never be forfeited to appease what the world thinks is realistic and or within your control. Step beyond what you think is logical and test the limits of your creativity and power. When we connect with our courage, confidence, and choice we allow for the flood gates of our right brain to open. Let your ideas flow and have faith in all that is possible. What’s your right brain got to say?

Competition Versus Creativeness

“Competition attempts to be like. Creativeness attempts to be unlike.” -U. S Anderson I don’t know about you, but I choose to be unlike anyone out there. We were each put on this earth with a unique purpose. In the entire world there is no one like you. Stop trying to be what you think others want you to be. Let’s stop being ridiculous, and embrace the fact that we are each essential in our own way. You have been living in the trap of competition for long enough. Why fight to have the same as everyone else when you can strive to obtain something different? Let go of the idea that the value system of the group is the same as your own. What do you value? What do have you to contribute that is good, and true, and unique?

Just as a painter puts paint to canvas with only his/her imagination and creativity guiding his vision, so too should we lead our individual lives. Paint the life you envision suiting your wants, and needs, not the life you see suiting others. It is only when we see value in our individual existence that we can look at life with creativity and wonder. We will take risks and explore every desire, every question, and every ambition that rises from within our minds. We will trust our intuition and resourcefulness, and know that every move we make manifested because we saw fit to make it so.

It’s not always easy to leave things in the past but we can never truly heal until we open our eyes to all that is still ahead of us. What are you looking forward to?

As I Began to Love Myself – A Poem on Self Love by Charlie Chaplin

As I began to love myself I found that anguish and emotional suffering
are only warning signs that I was living against my own truth.
Today, I know, this is “AUTHENTICITY”.

As I began to love myself I understood how much it can offend somebody
As I try to force my desires on this person, even though I knew the time
was not right and the person was not ready for it, and even though this
person was me. Today I call it “RESPECT”.

As I began to love myself I stopped craving for a different life,
and I could see that everything that surrounded me was inviting me to grow. Today I call it “MATURITY”.

As I began to love myself I understood that at any circumstance,
I am in the right place at the right time, and everything happens
at the exactly right moment. So I could be calm.
Today I call it “SELF-CONFIDENCE”.

As I began to love myself I quit steeling my own time,
and I stopped designing huge projects for the future.
Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness, things I love to do
and that make my heart cheer, and I do them in my own way and in
my own rhythm. Today I call it “SIMPLICITY”.

As I began to love myself I freed myself of anything that is no good for
my health – food, people, things, situations, and everything that drew
me down and away from myself. At first I called this attitude
a healthy egoism. Today I know it is “LOVE OF ONESELF”.

As I began to love myself I quit trying to always be right, and ever since
I was wrong less of the time. Today I discovered that is “MODESTY”.

As I began to love myself I refused to go on living in the past and worry
about the future. Now, I only live for the moment, where EVERYTHING
is happening. Today I live each day, day by day, and I call it “FULFILLMENT”.

tumblr_ltkntmRE6i1qkdy8to1_500

As I began to love myself I recognized that my mind can disturb me
and it can make me sick. But As I connected it to my heart, my
mind became a valuable ally. Today I call this
connection “WISDOM OF THE HEART”.

We no longer need to fear arguments, confrontations or any kind of problems with ourselves or others. Even stars collide, and out of their crashing new worlds are born. Today I know THAT IS “LIFE”!

Loving oneself can bring about true healing and transformation. When I came across this poem I was so inspired, that I had to share this wonderful work of art with each and every one of you. With his powerful words filled with truth and intense emotion, Charlie Chaplin calls upon the reader to look upon themselves and ask, “Do I really love who I am and who I’m becoming?” I invite you all to breathe these words in and reflect on what it truly means to love yourself. Notice the world around you and how you relate to it. How have your misconceptions, attitude, self-esteem, and limiting beliefs all gotten in the way of you living a full and happy life? Have you come to believe that somehow you are not deserving of self-love, and that you do not merit all that comes with being gentle, kind, understanding, and most importantly, forgiving of yourself? Charlie Chaplin’s words brilliantly describe ones journey of self exploration and acceptance. With awareness of self and an open heart to accepting what is, Charlie describes the steps required to truly experience life in all its glory. Be your authentic beautiful self each and every day. Respect all those wonderful parts of you that are unique and truly special. Celebrate each day no matter the challenges and tests you are called to face. Evolution of self results when learn to accept that what happens to us in life is all part of a larger plan the universe has mapped out for us. There is no experience we aren’t capable of overcoming when we believe in our abilities and purpose in this world. Allow the wisdom of your heart to shine through. Let it guide you to the life you know you deserve. Love yourself and keep moving forward.

The Unknown Is All There Is

unnamed

Look out into the distance. The unknown is all there is. There is no amount of planning or preparation that will keep you away from experiencing what is meant to be. Let your spirit and your heart guide you towards those things that have value and significance to you. This is your road. No matter how many people you might have around you, you travel this road alone. Every turn, every curve is created by you and only you, so embrace the choices that are yours alone to make. Your path will not always be clear, but that’s what’s so beautiful about this journey. Step fully into the unknown and permit yourself to explore what wonders you have yet to discover.

The unknown is not meant to be feared or shied away from. It is meant to serve as a reminder that there is always another way to go.  Step away from the safe and familiar and remember that these things were once the things you only wished for. Embracing the unknown requires us to let go and trust. Trust ourselves enough to try. Trust ourselves enough to be seen and trust ourselves enough to fail without judgement. We are capable of being our biggest supporters if we let go of all the limiting beliefs that no longer serve us. When we can replace these beliefs with thoughts of empowerment, confidence and self-love then and only then can we step fully into the unknown without fear or hesitation. Commit to stepping in fully by embracing the possibilities that exist in your life. The unknown is beautiful. The unknown is all there is.

Maintaining A Youthful Spirit

“Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.” – Franz Kafka

The video of this wonderful grandmother brings a smile to my face every time I watch it. Not only is she just the sweetest thing I have ever seen, but what I love about her the most is her youthful spirit. I am a firm believer that age is nothing but a number. It is a concept that succeeds at making us believe  we need to give certain things up as we get older. Whether it’s trading in our sense of humor for a more serious way of thinking, or sacrificing our sense of adventure out of fear that others will think we’re crazy, we are always convincing ourselves that our age should somehow dictate how we behave.

“Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years.  We grow old by deserting our ideals.  Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.’  -Samuel Ullman

I say let’s keep our youthful enthusiasm and spirit for as long as we possibly can! Stop telling yourself you’re too old to do and be what you want. Keep smiling and laugh when you feel like it. Breath in all that life has to offer as you tackle the day with energy and youthful vigor. We are only as old as we feel, so be silly, be curious and continue to be as creative as you were when you looked at the world through 5-year-old eyes. It is possible to maintain a youthful spirit, you just have to make the conscious decision to think young.

“There is a fountain of youth: it is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” -Sophia Loren

Remember that there are still adventures to be had, still lessons to be learned, and powerful transformations yet to be experienced. Think young and reinvent your spirit each and every day. As Mark Twain said, “Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.” As we get older we tend to resent the way we look. We find ourselves making comments like “I used to be handsome” or “I used to be so active”. Getting older doesn’t mean you that you cease to be what you once were. We are still the same person inside and we can reclaim that person anytime we want. Older individuals tend to love story telling. They enjoy sharing their life experiences with younger folks because it’s almost like they get to relive the experience all over again. Why not tap into that energy more often? Think young more and reconnect with that energy and aliveness you once had. Take a risk and try to do something you once did when you were younger. What would it be like to dance salsa again with your partner? What would it be like to put on a red dress and get dolled up? You’re not too old. You’ve got a lot of life yet to live. The problem is you have to start believing that you too deserve to live life to the fullest.

Live life to the fullest by extinguishing the idea that you are too old to live the life that you want. Break free of this limiting belief and permit yourself to get reacquainted with that younger version of yourself that always saw possibility. That version of you that knew how to live because they did the things that made their hearts sing. While our faces will surely carry a wrinkle or two as time goes by, our spirit has the potential to remain ageless. The ship has not sailed when it comes to maintaining a youthful spirit. Your youth has been waiting patiently for you at the dock this whole time. Step into your power today reconnecting with that youthful spirit. There is no time like now to realize that you’ve still got it in you to be young at heart. Keep living and take it from the beauty in the video above, life is still fun no matter your age.

Dream. Believe. Unlock

1453425_845653501762_368037463_nDream. Believe. Unlock.

Last week I was inspired by a post entitled Are you setting goals for 2014? Conceptualize instead written by my friend Miisa Mink from Driven Woman. In this post Miisa shared with her readers the idea of trading in New Year’s resolutions for three concepts that will push people towards action. Miisa expressed that rather than creating a list of goals this year, why not identify three words that describe what you want to achieve or how you want to feel during the year. In her post she gives the example of a person wanting to lose weight for the New Year. Instead of listing a new year’s resolution such as “I will to lose weight”, why not use a word that will motivate you to take action. In Miisa’s post she used the word “green” to represent what this person would need to eat if they really wanted to achieve their desired weight loss goal. In reading this post I was inspired to share the three words that have been motivating me to take action for the past 2 years. If you’ve got three words of your own please visit Miisa’s post and share your feedback.

If you are a frequent visitor of Ambition in the City you have probably seen me include the words dream, believe and unlock on several of my blog posts. Over the past 2 years these words have slowly evolved into what is now my coaching motto. I started to recognize how often I would use these words in my coaching and writing when I wanted to inspire clients and readers towards action. What I have discovered over time is that these words have aided me to not only make significant changes in my own life, but they have helped several of my clients and readers to reconnect with their courageconfidence and choice.  As we get this new year off and running I hope that you can find inspiration in these three little words and start thinking about words that could possibly start motivating you towards positive change.

Dream

What would life be like if there were no dreamers in the world?  In order to impact change in your life you must be willing to dream. As a life coach, cultivating my client’s curiosity and creativity is always one of my main objectives. It is only when we can tap into that part of ourselves that houses our childish enthusiasm and hunger for exploration that we can truly step into our power. When we are open to dreaming we give ourselves an opportunity to be curious and play. We allow for our thoughts to stretch past the farthest reaches of our imagination and we are given a chance to dive head first into the unknown.

What makes dreamers so unique? Dreamers have the courage to question and explore. They don’t disregard their thoughts, ideas or ambitions, they give these things the space they need to grow and flourish. Dreamers allow their ideas to sprout and take form. When you can approach your dreams with curiosity rather than fear or doubt you muster the courage necessary to believe that whatever you can create in your mind can in fact be made a reality.

“A dreamer will not stop having that dream until it has been fulfilled” -J. Wilson

Believe

What dreamers have that others often lack is the confidence and faith that their dreams have value in this world. When we can attach value to our goals we strengthen their power. We give them significance and purpose in our life and in turn empower ourselves to identify creative and unique methods that will propel us towards action. Dreamers believe in their capacity to create change in their own lives because they recognize the choice that exists for them. It is the choice to see past all limiting beliefs in an effort to embrace possibility.  The dreamer that connects to their courage and confidence see’s no obstacle they can’t overcome. They step confidently into the unknown with an open heart and an open mind because they believe in their mission and purpose in life.

“Humanity does not suffer from the disease of wrong beliefs but humanity suffers from the contagious nature of the lack of belief. If you have no magic with you it is not because magic does not exist but it is because you do not believe in it. Even if the sun shines brightly upon your skin every day, if you do not believe in the sunlight, the sunlight for you does not exist.” – C. JoyBell C.

Unlock

When you acknowledge your dreams and hidden aspirations as significant and worth exploring, you will start to notice the possibilities that begin to emerge all around you. As the doors to a better, happier and more fulfilling life begin to unlock you will come to realize all the possibilities that have existed for you all along. Dreamers succeed because they see past the “what ifs” and the “but only’s” that succeed in keeping so many of us small. They cultivate their beautiful ideas by nurturing them with love and attention, sharing them with others, and by ultimately giving them the room to grow into something beautiful.

This year promise yourself that you are going to dream, that you are going to  believe and that you are going to unlock the life you know you deserve.

“There is nothing like a dream to create the future.” –Victor Hugo

Where We are is Where we Need to Be

I never realized how blessed I was until I truly started living in the present. It was only when I started functioning from my spirit that I truly began to see the life that I had in front of me. I took notice of the love and affection, the laughter and joy, the beauty of the world around me, and the ambitions and talents that exist in my life. Today my spirit and my heart guide me. Where my head was once the sole captain of my journey, I now permit the voices of my true center to man the ship that will take me where I need to be. Taking inventory of my life has led me to this wonderful discovery. Listening more and second guessing less has enabled the voices of my spirit to emerge and reclaim their power. Their is wisdom from within that is just waiting to be given its proper audience. Will you listen? Will you take notice?
